Subaortic stenosis is one of the most frequent hereditary heart failures in dogs. Due to abnormal tissue in the left ventricular outflow tract the blood flow is impeded. Symptoms show a huge variety: although digs with a mild form of the disease may have a normal lifespan and life quality, severely affected animals may undergo life-threatening arrhythmias, congestive heart failure and sudden death. The investigated genetic variant show a strong association to this disease. So a genetic test can help to decrease prevalence of mutation in this breed.
Please note: Based on the latest publication (Drögemüller et al: A single codon insertion in PICALM gene is not associated with SAS in Newfoundland dogs; Hum Genet 2014 Nov 13) we stop testing for this genetic variant in relation to SAS. For further questions do not hesitate to contact us.
The DNA test is performed out of EDTA blood or buccal swabs. Required swabs can be ordered free of charge. (Buccal swab order-form). If a swab is sent in, possibly the genetic material is not sufficient to run the test. In this case it would be best to send in an EDTA blood sample.
Please send in your sample together with the lab order genetic. Results will be transmitted optionally via post, fax or email. After completion of the test you will receive a separate invoice. Payment can be made via credit card or bank transfer. Breeding club discounts apply if a copy of the membership card is sent together with the respective samples. Due to administrative reasons the invoiced price can not be altered subsequently.
